Students with disabilities are protected under THREE (3) major Laws in the United States. These laws ensure that individuals with disabilities (not just educationally based) are not discriminated and have equal and equitable access to resources.

- IDEIA (formally IDEA)- revised in 2004, this law provides special education to students through IEPs
- Section 504- children with disabilities are ensured equal access to an education through accommodations and modifications, related aids and services, that meet a student's individualized needs
- ADA- Americans with Disabilities Act, a civil rights law that prohibits discrimination based on an individual's disability in school, by an employer, and by places that are open to the general public
