Black History Month Begain as Negro History Week in 1926, Created by Carter G. Woodson, a historian, educator, and founder of the Association for the study of African American Life and History (ASALH)
By the late 1960s and early 1970s President Gerald Ford Officially recognized Black History Month, Encouraging Americans to honor the contributions of Black Americans.
February is rooted in the historical significance of Lincoln and Douglass, who symbolize the fight for freedom and equality.
February became a month to reflect on the broader struggles and achievements of Black individuals in shaping American history.
LSU kicked off Black History Month by learning about Dr. Martin Luther King Jr and all of his accomplishments. They completed a project based on his ideals of how people can change the world. Look at their amazing art work!
